Otumfuo Solicits Stakeholders Recommendation Ahead Of Kotoko Board Institution
His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has engaged the Asante Kotoko National Circles Council (NCC) and the Asante Kotoko Old Players ahead of the institution of a new Board of Directors for the club.
This follows the dissolution of the Club’s Board earlier this week after taking the report on the Club’s management.
In a meeting at the Manhyia Palace on Friday, July 21, 2023, the life Patron of the Club registered his displeasure at the short life span of Boards that have run the Club since he assumed power.
He requested the contributions of the Old Players and the leadership of the supporters towards the institution of a successful Board which will in turn contribute to the success of the Club.
After conferring with their respective outfits and themselves, representatives of the Old Players, George Kennedy who spoke on behalf of the two called for reforms.
“During our time at the Club as players, there was nothing like a Board. The Club was delegated under the authority of one person who selected other people to help in the steering the affairs of the Club. With the Board structure, the demand and display of authority by members creates factions which disrupt the Club. Management, Board and Technical team must be one.”
After being asked who be given the mandate- whether a person capable of financing the Club or a person rich in knowledge of football- they recommended both noting Clubs are run with finances and knowledge.
“The Club must be handed to someone who has the resources and must be managed by football professionals just as Chelsea did some time ago. When Roman Arkadyevich Abramovich bought it he appointed football professionals to manage it.”
They promised their support for the club if this reform is put in place.
The Asante Kotoko SC during the 2022/2023 season failed to defend their title and came 4th having won 13 of their 34 matches, drawn 13 and lost eight games.
