Otumfuo-Agroecom Mobile Learning Van Stops At Kobeng

The Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation initiative aimed at bridging the gap between rural and urban education in Ghana is currently in Kobeng in the Atwima Nwabiagya District of the Ashanti Region.

The team, just like in all other communities, will provide laptops and GES-recommended books to aid students in practical Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Reading lessons respectively as well as to conduct Community Cinema sessions.

For ICT, the team will focus on how to properly hold and use the mouse, the functions of the keyboard, features of the desktop, how to create a folder, how to personalise the computer, basic skills of typing using Mavis Beacon, Microsoft Office Suite, painting using the computer, and many others.

Pupils will also get practical reading strategies and match appropriate strategies to each reading situation including Previewing, Predicting, Skimming and Scanning, Guessing from context, and Paraphrasing as well as the letters of the 42 sounds of English for effective reading skills, word pronunciations, and how to use the dictionary.

Between the hours of 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm, every evening of the project will be the edutainment moment of the course for both children and adults known as the Community Cinemas sessions. Films of the Asante tradition (Adaekese ceremony) from Manhyia Palace, videos on conducted interviews with Cocoa farmers, videos of Agroecom, videos on the children’s classroom sessions, and a platform for Agroecom will be televised after which there will be discussions with the community members.

Provisions made for the project include 100 sets of laptops and two desktops powered by a generator for the ICT lessons, a makeshift library, and films for the Cinemas session.

The project in Kobeng is scheduled to end on March 12, 2022.

The 2022 edition of the OAMLP began at Essuowin in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti region of Ghana and ended on Friday, February 25, 2022.

The project is in partnership with Opemsuo radio and sponsored by cocoa buying company, Agroecom.
