Nigeria to Host 2026 CAF Awards and 48th General Assembly

In a major development for African football, the prestigious CAF Awards ceremony is set to move to Nigeria after four years in Morocco.
Nigeria will also host the 48th Ordinary General Assembly of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), marking a significant boost for the country’s profile on the continental stage.
The announcement was made during the ongoing Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya, following a high-level meeting between Nigerian President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and CAF President Patrice Motsepe.
Present at the crucial meeting were Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, former NFF President and Special Adviser to the CAF President Amaju Pinnick, as well as CAF Acting General Secretary Samson Adamu.
The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) confirmed the development in an official statement, revealing that President Tinubu has given full approval for Nigeria to host both events.
“The President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, has approved Nigeria’s proposed hosting of the 48th Ordinary General Assembly of the Confederation of African Football, as well as this year’s CAF Awards Ceremony,” the statement read.
The 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly is scheduled to take place in October this year.
This move brings the glittering CAF Awards back to Nigeria after many years.
The most recent edition was held in Rabat, Morocco, on November 19, 2025, where Paris Saint-Germain full-back Achraf Hakimi was crowned African Player of the Year.
Hosting the awards and the General Assembly is expected to provide Nigeria with a major opportunity to showcase its growing football infrastructure, organisational capacity, and passion for the game.
Nigeria will now begin preparations to ensure the events are hosted to the highest international standards, as the eyes of the African football family turn towards the West African powerhouse later this year.
