C/R: Family of 7 Perish In Suspected Arson

Seven members of a family have been burnt to death after one of the four-bedroom houses was gutted by fire at Akyempim in the Upper Denkyira East Municipality of the Central Region in a suspected arson.

The victims included five children between the ages of 1 and 15, and two adults, believed to be the mother of the children and her eldest daughter.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the husband of the deceased woman allegedly set the bedroom, where the seven victims were sleeping, on fire and padlocked it from the outside before fleeing to a nearby bush, where he is believed to have taken his own life.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the victims could not be rescued in time.

Their remains have since been handed over to the Ghana Police Service at Akyempim for further investigations.

Meanwhile, the Police discovered the body of the suspect hanged in a nearby bush.
