Lands Ministry Dismisses Claims of National Security Involvement in Ankobra River Galamsey

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has dismissed allegations that National Security operatives aided illegal mining activities along the Ankobra River.

This follows the arrest of some illegal miners in the Prestea enclave on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, during which the suspects claimed their operations were supported by National Security personnel.

In a statement, the ministry said preliminary investigations found the allegations to be “completely false, misleading and without any merit or basis whatsoever.”

It added that some illegal miners have developed a pattern of making baseless claims against state institutions and security agencies to evade accountability.

It noted that the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat was determined to bring such persons masquerading as National Security operatives to book.

The ministry further expressed appreciation for the resilience, collaboration, and commitment of National Security and other stakeholders in the government’s intensified efforts to combat galamsey across the country.
