Lands Commission Exchanges Land Governance Know-How with Eswatini Team

The Lands Commission hosted a seven-member delegation from the Kingdom of Eswatini, sharing with them best practices in land administration and governance.

The visit on Monday, June 1, 2026, underscores the growing recognition of Ghana’s land administration reforms and the Lands Commission’s role as a leading institution on the African continent in the areas of land governance, digital transformation, and institutional reform.

Welcoming the delegation to the Commission’s Boardroom, the National Chairman of the Lands Commission, Surv. Dr. Wordsworth Odame-Larbi, expressed his pleasure at hosting the team and commended them for selecting Ghana as a learning destination.

He noted that such engagements create valuable opportunities for African institutions to learn from one another, strengthen professional networks, and collectively advance efficient and transparent land administration systems across the continent.

Surv. Dr. Odame-Larbi assured the delegation of the Commission’s commitment to openly sharing its experiences, achievements, challenges, and lessons learned over the years, emphasizing that collaboration remains key to improving land governance and unlocking sustainable development opportunities in Africa.

Leading the Eswatini delegation, Ms. Nonhlanhla Dlamini expressed appreciation for the warm reception and hospitality extended to the team.

She explained that the visit formed part of efforts by Eswatini to draw lessons from Ghana’s land administration framework and ongoing reforms.

According to her, the knowledge and practical insights gained during the engagement would significantly support ongoing initiatives to strengthen land administration and service delivery in Eswatini.

A comprehensive presentation was delivered by Surv. Raphael Hokey Esq., Acting Deputy Executive Secretary in charge of Operations, provided an extensive overview of the Lands Commission’s mandate, operations, achievements, and strategic role within Ghana’s land administration architecture.

The presentation highlighted the evolution of the Lands Commission, Ghana’s land tenure system, ongoing reforms and transformation initiatives, the functions of the Commission’s divisions, procedures for the acquisition and management of public lands, mechanisms for dispute prevention and resolution, and key lessons that have shaped the institution’s development.

It also showcased the Commission’s strategic contribution to national development through improved land governance and service delivery.

The engagement featured an interactive question-and-answer session, allowing members of the Eswatini delegation to engage directly with officials of the Commission on issues relating to institutional reforms, land registration procedures, digitalisation, dispute resolution mechanisms, and stakeholder engagement.

Officials provided detailed explanations and shared practical experiences from Ghana’s reform journey.

In a symbolic gesture of partnership and knowledge exchange, the Lands Commission presented copies of the Land Act, 2020 (Act 1036) to the visiting delegation to support their continued learning and reference.

In return, the Eswatini delegation presented a commemorative plaque to Dr. Odame-Larbi as a token of appreciation for the Commission’s hospitality and openness in sharing its expertise.

The visit concluded with both institutions reaffirming their commitment to strengthening cooperation and promoting continuous collaboration in the pursuit of modern, transparent, efficient, and sustainable land administration systems that support economic growth and development across Africa.

The engagement further reinforces the Lands Commission’s growing reputation as a centre of excellence in land administration and a key contributor to knowledge-sharing efforts aimed at improving land governance across the continent.
