June 3 Remembrance: NADMO Urges Public to Avoid Fuel Stations During Floods

Eleven years after the June 3, 2015, disaster at Kwame Nkrumah Circle, NADMO is urging Ghanaians to turn remembrance into action by prioritising safety during floods and heavy rains.
In an advisory marking the anniversary today, NADMO said the day is not just for grief, but for renewed resolve to do better when disaster strikes.
The National Disaster Management Organisation reminded the public that fuel stations are not safe shelters during downpours.
“In moments of flooding or heavy rain, please do not find shelter at a fuel station. If possible, stay at home or in your office until the rain stops. Find safety far away from a fuel station,” NADMO stated.
The June 3, 2015, explosion and flood at Circle claimed dozens of lives after people sought refuge at a GOIL fuel station during a heavy rainstorm.
NADMO said the best way to honour those lost is to protect those still living.
“The best way to honour the lives we have lost is to protect the lives that we have. Always remember prevention pays,” the agency added.
The Organisation is urging residents in flood-prone areas to take early precautions and heed weather alerts from the Ghana Meteorological Agency.
