Communication Minister Announces Committee to Address High Data Cost

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam George says he will be setting up a committee to address the high cost of data and ensure value for money.
The message follows his swearing-in by President John Dramani Mahama at the Jubilee House on Friday, February 7, 2025.
Though a clear timeline for this has not been given, the lawmaker assured that the committee will be set up in the coming days.
The Committee, he said, the team will devise a common ground on the issue which is particularly a concern to the young generation.
In a post on Facebook, he said the team will include representatives from the Ministries of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Energy, Finance, National Communication Authority (NCA) and Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC).
Also will be executives of the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunication, National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), and Association of Content Creators, amongst others.
“In the coming days, a team to discuss and chart a road map that works for everyone involved would be outdoored. The focus would be to find common grounds that are representative of the needs of the citizens, industry and govt.”
The Minister and MP for Ningo Prampram is hoping this move will hatch a “workable” plan that sees an increase in value on data offerings across the board.
