Interior Minister Warns Private Security Firms Against Illegal Firearm Use

The Minister for Interior, Muntaka Mubarak, has cautioned private security organisations against possessing or using firearms illegally,

Citing Regulation 13 of LI 1571, he stated that such actions are prohibited.

Addressing a press conference on June 23, 2026, Mubarak said some individuals register private security organisations and obtain approval to own guns for personal protection.

However, they later divert those firearms to be used by their organisations for operational purposes, which contravenes the law, he observed.

“People come forward to register private security organisations. When granted that permission, they take individuals within their organisation to register guns as though they are using them for self-protection but end up using them for the organisation,” he said.

“If you cannot use your personal arrangement which has been approved for protection, now use it to operate your organisation.”

The Minister stressed that Regulation 13 of LI 1571 explicitly prohibits private security firms from possessing or using firearms.

He warned that the government will enforce the regulation strictly as part of post-amnesty measures to curb the proliferation of illicit arms.

He added that with the gun amnesty window now closed, security agencies will intensify operations to confiscate illegal firearms and prosecute offenders, including private security operators found in breach of the law.
