Inaki William Out Of Ghana Squad For AFCON Qualifier

Athletico Bilbao forward Inaki William has ruled himself out of Ghana’s squad for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier later this month.

According to him, the decision is linked to knee pain he has been experiencing for some weeks now.

He said he decided to play until the end of the season, however, “after having spoken to the medical services, we’ve decided to stop and solve the problem to be 100% for the preseason.”

He was named among the 24-man squad of Ghana to face Madagascar on June 18 at Antananarivo.

The 28-year-old notes that the decision was a difficult one since he will miss the chance to play for the national team.

“I want to say that I am fully committed and I will come back it with the Black Stars if the coach deems it appropriate next calls,” he added.

The official Twitter account of the Black Stars commented on the post saying, “Come back stronger, Iñaki. 👊🏾❤️”

At the Club level, Inaki has scored 10 goals this season and given three assists after making 36 appearances.

He made his debut for Ghana during the 2022 World Cup tournament and has since received call-ups during all international campaigns.
