GTA Endorses Over 200 Events Ahead Of Xmas

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) says it has endorsed at least 200 events across the county for December and early January as a means of boosting tourism in the country.

In an interview with Asaase Radio, the Head of Corporate Affairs of GTA, Jones Haruna Nelson said the idea is to leverage on events which has now become the bedrock for tourism across the world to increase visitation in Ghana.

“Events have been an attraction in itself {since} 2019. That is why we had December in GH, trying to leverage on the events and activities we have, bringing people from the diaspora and organizing it across the country so that we have a cutting edge.”

“As I speak now, we have over 200 events which have been endorsed by the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) to be hosted from December to early January.”

According to him, stakeholder engagements have been held with the Ghana Tourism Federation, Tour Operators Union, Ghana Hoteliers, and Tour Guides among others to come together in the provision of the requisite services.

He also assured of the highest security for tourists echoing assurances from the Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akufo Dampare.

The IGP is on record to have promised an “overdose” level of security this Christmas.

“We want to assure you that this Christmas will be awesome,” Dampare said. “I assure you that the police will give you double overdose of security… So, Ghana is ready, to all the tourists, I want to assure you that Ghana is ready, and the police are ready, come and enjoy our hospitality. We will protect you and all your belongings,” he is quoted to have said during one of his engagements with stakeholders ahead of December and Christmas.
