GRNMA Isn’t Partisan- President

The President of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, has affirmed that the association is a non-partisan body.
At a presser, she stated that the group has never aligned with any political party in Ghana in its 65 years of existence.
This was in reaction to the “misinformation, disinformation and the propaganda” that surrounded the strike action.
“The GRNMA is a non-partisan Professional Association and Trade Union and the holder of the Collective Bargaining Certificate covering all nurses and midwives in Ghana.”
She maintained that the group has worked with every government in building a stronger and more resilient health system responsive to the health needs of Ghanaians while at the same time representing the interest of nurses and midwives in matters related to their welfare and general working conditions.
In addition, she stated that nurses and midwives do not take delight in seeing patients suffer but to exception to the fact that “we cannot take good care of others when the system does not take good care of us.”
It was therefore her case that matters affecting the profession brought formally to the attention of the employer must be treated with the urgency it deserves and in good faith.
The President of the group suspended their strike action for the implementation of their Collective Agreement on June 13, 2025, after staging a road-mapped industrial action on June 2 with the wearing of red armbands followed by the withdrawal of outpatient department and emergency services and culminating in the total withdrawal of all nursing and midwifery services on June 9.
