We Can’t Take Good Care of Others When We Aren’t Well Catered For- GRNMA Prez

The President of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, has justified its industrial action initiated on June 2.
At a presser on June 13, she said nurses and midwives cannot offer better health services when they are not well catered for by the system.
“As nurses and midwives, we do not take delight in seeing our patients suffer, however, we cannot take good care of others when the system does not take good care of us.”
The group staged a road-mapped industrial action on June 2 with the wearing of red armbands followed by the withdrawal of outpatient department and emergency services and culminating in the total withdrawal of all nursing and midwifery services on June 9.
Perpetual announced the suspension of the strike on June 13, directing members to report to work the next day.
She said this followed a fruitful engagement with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health and other interested parties on Thursday, June 12.
“The engagement held with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health and other interested parties on Thursday, June 12 was very fruitful and has paved the way for an amicable resolution of the impasse with our employer concerning the implementation of our Collective Agreement.”
She, however, noted that the suspension is pending the outcome of a follow-up meeting on June 26, 2025, assuring members that the leadership will not rest until the collective agreement is fully implemented.
