Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association Suspends Strike

The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has suspended its industrial action over conditions of service.

The group staged a road-mapped industrial action on June 2 with the wearing of red armbands followed by the withdrawal of outpatient department and emergency services and culminating in the total withdrawal of all nursing and midwifery services on June 9.

In a social media press conference on June 14, the president of the Association, Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, directed nurses and midwives to resume their normal shifts effective Saturday.

She said this followed a fruitful engagement with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health and other interested parties on Thursday, June 12.

“The engagement held with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health and other interested parties on Thursday, June 12 was very fruitful and has paved the way for an amicable resolution of the impasse with our employer concerning the implementation of our Collective Agreement.”

She, however, noted that the suspension is pending the outcome of a follow-up meeting on June 26, 2025, assuring members that the leadership will not rest until the collective agreement is fully implemented.
