GRA Extends Tax Filing Deadline

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has extended the deadline for filing second quarter Corporate Income Tax, Personal Income Tax, and May 2026 Value Added Tax, National Health Insurance Levy and Communications Service Tax returns, following severe flooding caused by recent heavy rains in Accra and surrounding areas.

In a press release dated July 1, 2026, the Authority said the Commissioner-General approved the extension to support business continuity after the disruptions.

Under the normal tax calendar, Corporate Income Tax, Personal Income Tax, VAT, NHIL and CST for May 2026 are due on or before the last working day of the month following the taxable period, which would have made the returns due on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.

The GRA has now extended the filing deadline to Monday, July 6, 2026.

Taxpayers who file by the new date will not be liable for late filing penalties for this period, but normal penalties will apply to returns submitted after the extended deadline.

The Authority is encouraging taxpayers to use the Taxpayer’s Portal and other digital platforms to file returns in order to minimise travel and delays.

It added that those experiencing significant operational challenges because of the flooding should contact the nearest GRA Taxpayer Service Centre or tax office for assistance.

The GRA described the extension as a targeted relief measure intended to help taxpayers affected by the flooding meet their tax obligations without incurring immediate penalties, while maintaining uninterrupted tax administration and safeguarding revenue needed for national development.
