Gov’t Launches GH¢350m National Post-Flood Recovery Drive Led by Armed Forces

The government has announced a coordinated national post-flood recovery and mitigation exercise backed by GH¢350 million to restore affected communities, improve sanitation, and build resilience against future flooding.
The exercise will be led by the Ghana Armed Forces, which has been tasked with a clean-up and restoration operation across flood-hit areas.
According to Director General of Joint Operations, Forster Okae-Yeboah, the mission will focus on restoring public safety, improving sanitation, and reducing public health risks such as water-borne disease outbreaks that often follow floods.
Speaking at a press briefing on the National Update on the Recent Floods, Okae-Yeboah said the government is grateful to private sector partners who have provided logistics, equipment, and technical expertise to support ongoing recovery efforts.
He added that enforcement will be a key part of the exercise, including the removal of structures built in waterways or in areas deemed to pose immediate safety risks, as part of efforts to restore order and reduce future flood vulnerability.
Spokesperson to the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, reaffirmed Government’s commitment to the programme and assured that all displaced persons will be supported as communities are restored.
The GH¢350 million allocation will cover emergency relief, reconstruction, and long-term flood mitigation interventions.
