Gonja Kingdom Gets New King; Mahama, Jinapor Congratulate Him

Kingmakers of the Gonjaland have named the Paramount Chief of the Tuluwe Traditional Area, Tuluwewura Soale Mbema Amonibaafe Borenyi (I), as King of Gonja.

 

The announcement was made by the Acting Head of State of the Gonja Kingdom, Sonyowura Adamu Kanyiti I, on Monday, February 27, 2023.

He will replace the late Prof Tuntunba Boressah II, who died on February 5, 2023, aged 90.

Some political leaders have taken to social media to congratulate the nominated King.

Among them were Former President John Dramani Mahama and Member of Parliament for Damongo Constituency, Samuel Abu Jinapor.

Mr Mahama in a post hailed the peace that has characterised his nomination.

“Congratulations to Yagbonwura Amonebafe Borenyi I, the new King of Gonjaland. I am proud that the time-tested traditions of Gonjaland, handed to us by the Founder of Gonja, Ndewura Sumaila Jakpa, has once again worked seamlessly and peacefully installed the successor to our late overlord, HRM Yiram, Yagbonwura Sulemana Jakpa Tuntumba Boresa I”, he wrote on his Facebook page.

He added, “I wish our new King long life and a successful reign that will deliver tangible development to our people.”

Hon Jinapor also touched on the smooth nomination process.

“The time-tested customs and traditions of Gonjaland have seen the smooth and peaceful nomination of a successor to the Yagbon, and we all remain proud of this feat.”

He also congratulated Yagbonwura Amonebafe Borenyi I and wished him well in his new Office.

“I congratulate the newly nominated Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Yiram Amonebafe Borenyi I, on his historic nomination to the great Yagbon Skin…We pray for God’s continuous protection for him and wish him a peaceful and successful reign.”
