Goldbod to Partner with Royal Ghana Gold Refinery

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) is set to partner with Royal Ghana Gold Refinery in a move to scale up local refining of Ghana’s gold, in line with the government’s value addition agenda.
Ahead of the partnership, the GoldBod CEO, Sammy Gyamfi Esq., toured the Refinery over the weekend.
The tour is part of the final processes toward signing a refining services agreement between the two institutions.
The partnership will see a significant portion of gold purchased by GoldBod refined locally at Royal Ghana Gold before export, marking a shift from the long-standing practice of exporting unrefined dore.
Royal Ghana Gold Refinery is a state-of-the-art, LBMA-compliant facility with a processing capacity of 400kg per day.
The refinery produces gold bars of 99.99% purity that meet international trading standards.
Under the proposed agreement, GoldBod will channel gold from small-scale miners and other licensed sources to the refinery for processing into bullion before export.
This follows a landmark agreement between the Goldbod and Gold Coast Refinery on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.
GoldBod was established by the Mahama administration to streamline gold purchases, curb smuggling, and ensure Ghana maximises revenue from its gold resources.
The Board is currently the sole authorised buyer of gold from licensed small-scale miners.
