Ghanaian ‘Dada Joe Remix’ Pleads Guilty in $4.4 Million U.S. Romance and Inheritance Fraud Case

A Ghanaian national, Joseph Kwadwo Badu Boateng, alias “Dada Joe Remix,” has pleaded guilty to Conspiracy to Commit Wire Fraud in connection with a decade-long romance and inheritance fraud scheme targeting elderly Americans.
Boateng was arrested in Ghana on an extradition warrant on May 27, 2025.
He was extradited to the United States in June 2025 and has remained in custody since.
In his plea agreement, Boateng admitted that he and co-conspirators operated the scheme from 2013 through March 2023.
Prosecutors said the group targeted elderly victims in Arizona and across the United States.
According to court documents, the co-conspirators posed as romantic partners on online dating sites, via text, or other electronic communications to gain victims’ trust.
They also falsely claimed to have received an “inheritance” of gold and jewels, and told victims that taxes and other fees were required to release the items.
As part of the plea, Boateng agreed to pay restitution of approximately $4.4 million, representing the direct losses linked to his role in the scheme.
Sentencing is scheduled for September 8, 2026, before United States District Judge Angela M. Martinez.
The FBI Phoenix Division’s Sierra Vista office led the investigation. Prosecution is being handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Arizona, Tucson.
U.S. authorities said the extradition was made possible with support from the FBI Legal Attaché in Accra, Ghana; the Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice; Ghana’s Economic and Organised Crime Office; Ghana Police Service – INTERPOL; and the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of International Affairs.
