Ghana Needs New Politics with Less Acrimony and Zero Tolerance for Insults – Otumfuo

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has called for a new face of Ghanaian politics as the country clocks 70 years in 2027.
The Asantehene outlined his expectations for the coming year at a dinner ball celebrating his 27th enstoolment anniversary on April 24, 2026, at the Manhyia Palace.
The Monarch expects President John Dramani Mahama to set the tone for a new politics for the decade of the 70s.This new face, he said, must have less acrimony and zero tolerance for insults, be laid on the foundations of truth, discipline, and respect for law and order, and be focused on the three pillars of development.
“Destiny has conferred on President John Dramani Mahama the duty of leading his people into the seventh decade of nationhood. As always, we remain faithful to the President in the journey towards the fulfilment of his mandate, and we cherish the hope that his legacy to successors will be a Ghana worthier, happier, and prouder than he inherited.”
“We need a new paradigm in the relationship between the state and business, which recognizes that successful governance is predicated on the success of business, and business becomes the indicator by which we measure national prosperity.”
The event was graced by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, businessman Sir Sam Jonah, the Olu of Warri Kingdom in Nigeria, His Royal Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, and his wife, Her Royal Highness Olori Atuwatse III.
Also present were Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Johnson Asiama, politician Alan Kyerematen, Council of State member Betty Mould-Iddrisu, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga, and Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene.
