OFFICIAL: Asante Kotoko Name South African Tactician Eric Tinkler as New Head Coach

Ghana’s most successful club Asante Kotoko have officially announced the appointment of South African-Portuguese coach Eric Tinkler as the club’s new head coach.

The 55-year-old takes over the reins at the Porcupine Warriors following the departure of former coach Karim Zito, who was sacked early in the year in what was mainly described as poor performance.

In his absence, assistants Prince Owusu and Mohammed Hamza Obeng had taken charge on an interim basis at different points during the 2025/26 season.

The ‘Kum Apem’ lads finished in 8th position on the league table last season with 49 points – a disappointing campaign by their high standards.

With Tinkler at the helm, the Porcupine Warriors are hoping for a major turnaround next season as they target winning the Ghana Premier League title for the first time since 2022.

Eric Tinkler brings a wealth of managerial experience from South African football. He has previously led top clubs including Orlando Pirates, Cape Town City, SuperSport United, Chippa United, Maritzburg United, and Sekhukhune United. His appointment is seen as a strategic move by the club to inject fresh ideas and tactical discipline into the team.

A new chapter begins for the Porcupine Warriors as they look to rebuild and mount a serious title challenge in the upcoming season.
