Ghana Mission Alerts Citizens In South Africa Over Xenophobic Threats

Ghana’s Consul in Pretoria, South Africa, has called on Ghanaians living in the country to be wary as they move about.

This is in view of Xenophobic threats unleashed by some groups in the country.

“In the last months, individuals claiming to represent groups against the presence of foreigners have announced or broadcast plans to attack, rusticate or remove foreigners from their jobs or workplaces and even out of the country from the beginning of September 2022”, Mission noted.

The Ghanaian Mission recognises that although it’s not a government policy, it could degenerate into violence against foreigners.

The Mission, therefore, advised the Ghanaian community to be vigilant, restrict movements to safe areas, avoid mass gatherings and restrain activities that could result in conflict.
