379 Foreigners Arrested For Attempting to Acquire Ghanaian Passports- Ablakwa

Three hundred and seventy-nine foreign nationals have been arrested following an unsuccessful acquisition of Ghanaian passports, according to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

From these suspects, he said, were retrieved 379 Ghana cards.

Addressing an audience, he said they were exposed in the course of the rigorous passport application process by his team of experts.

“They thought they could beat the system because to go through the system, you need a Ghana Card and a birth certificate. But with the Ghana card and birth certificate, you are subjected to vetting.”

“There is an extra layer by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to interview you and screen you, and our officers are well-trained. They are psychologists and know when you are lying.”

Ablakwa, therefore, warned against the attempts to illegitimately acquire a Ghanaian passport, adding that such persons will be promptly apprehended and prosecuted.

“We want to build confidence and let you know that the confidence we have put.”
