GUTA Appeals to Traders to Reduce Prices of Goods

The Ghana Union of Traders’ Associations (GUTA) has appealed to traders across the country to adjust the prices of goods and services in response to the appreciation of the cedi.

In a statement signed by its President, Dr. Joseph Obeng, the Union said buyers are entitled to relief following the currency’s strong performance.

“The Ghana Union of Traders’ Associations (GUTA) wishes to appeal to the trading community to adjust prices of goods and services to share the significant gains made by the appreciation of the cedi against the major trading currencies and bring some relief to the consuming public.”

The cedi is currently trading around GHC13.

According to the Finance Minister, Cassiel Ato Forson, the gains are a result of deliberate, well-thought-out planning and prudent economic management.

Addressing the leadership of the Food and Beverage Association of Ghana (FABAG) on May 8, he said appreciation of the cedi and its stability will not be a temporary or knee-jerk reaction.

“This stability is here to stay.”
