Agric Ministry Inaugurates National Seed Council To Strengthen Ghana’s Seed Sector

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) has inaugurated the National Seed Council to provide strategic oversight and support for the development of Ghana’s seed industry.

The inauguration was held in Accra and administered by the Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. John Dumelo.

He emphasised that quality seeds are central to improving agricultural productivity and achieving food security, noting that investments in fertiliser, irrigation, mechanisation, and Farmer Service Centres will only be fully effective when supported by a strong seed system.

He also called for faster approval and certification processes to enable local seed companies to supply improved, climate-resilient varieties that can withstand drought, pests, and diseases.

Chairman of the Council, Alhaji Abubakari Mumuni, expressed the council’s appreciation for the confidence placed in the members and assured the Ministry of their commitment to delivering on their mandate.

The Council is expected to play a key role in improving access to quality planting materials and strengthening Ghana’s overall agricultural productivity and food security.
