Fire Service Probes Conduct Of Officer Who Beat Bailiff

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has set up a committee to probe the conduct of Emmanuel Ayitah Quansah, a firefighter who beat up a court bailiff who visited his house to serve him a document.

Despite being handed down a custodial sentence of two days for contempt of court, the Fire Service has assured that he will be handed appropriate sanctions if found culpable.

It said the Committee has been charged to submit their report in two weeks.

In a statement, the service said it frowns on misconduct in any form and is committed to upholding the highest disciplinary standard.

It added, “Management therefore reminds all personnel of the Service to exhibit discipline at all times, abide by and comply with the Ghana National Fire Service Disciplinary Regulations (LI 1725) as anyone found going contrary going contrary to the regulations shall be made to face the full rigours of the law.”

Officer Ayitah Quansah last week was slapped with two days in prison for beating up a court bailiff who visited him in his house to serve him.

According to reports, the Officer argued that the court staff erred in the discharge of his duties, stating that he should have been served at his office rather than at his home.
