Mahama Grants Amnesty To Almost 1000 Inmates

President John Dramani Mahama has exercised his prerogative of mercy, granting amnesty to almost one thousand inmates.
In a statement on Monday, the Presidency said 998 inmates of 1,014 recommended convicts had been pardoned.
This decision was taken upon the recommendation of the Ghana Prison Service and in consultation with the Council of State.
The beneficiaries include 787 first-time offenders, 33 seriously ill, 36 aged, 2 nursing mothers and 2 petitioners.
In addition, Maham has commuted 87 death sentences to life imprisonment and 51 life sentences to a definite 20-year sentence.
