DVLA Alerts Public to Fake SMS Scam Demanding “Fines” via Fraudulent Links

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has warned Ghanaians to be wary of fraudulent text messages circulating under the guise of collecting DVLA fines.
In a statement, the DVLA said it is concerned about scammers sending SMS messages to unsuspecting members of the public.
The messages contain links that redirect recipients to fake payment platforms. Once on the site, victims are asked to pay a supposed DVLA fine, often with false claims of discounts or urgent deadlines to pressure them into paying quickly.
The Authority made it clear that these messages are not from DVLA and must be disregarded.
The DVLA stressed that it does not offer discounts on fines, so any SMS, website, or person promising reduced fines is fraudulent.
The only approved online payment channel for DVLA transactions is the Government of Ghana’s official platform at www.Ghana.gov.gh or the DVLA’s official website at www.dvla.gov.gh.
The Authority cautioned that any other website, shortened link, or unofficial payment link claiming to represent DVLA should be treated as fake.
Members of the public were also urged not to click suspicious links, enter personal details, or make payments through any unapproved platform.
The DVLA advised the public to verify all information related to its services through the official website, recognised DVLA offices, and approved communication channels.
“Anyone who receives such suspicious SMS messages should report them to the nearest DVLA office or to law enforcement agencies for further action.”
The Authority reiterated its commitment to protecting the public from fraud and ensuring that all official transactions are carried out only through secure and approved channels.
