Water Supply to Kumasi Resumes after Barekese Pipeline Repairs Completion Ahead of Schedule

The Ghana Water Limited has completed emergency repairs on the transmission pipeline at the Barekese Water Treatment Plant, restoring water supply to the Kumasi Metropolitan Area and adjoining communities hours ahead of schedule.

In a statement, the Management of GWL, Ashanti Region, said the repair works were completed at 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday, 10th June 2026, significantly earlier than the projected completion period.

The Authority credited the early finish to the dedication, professionalism, and commitment of its technical and operational teams who worked through the night to fix the pipeline and restore service to customers.

The disruption affected parts of Kumasi and surrounding areas while crews worked to address the fault on the critical transmission line that feeds the metropolis. With repairs now done, normal water flow is expected to resume progressively across the affected zones.

The GWL Management expressed appreciation to customers, stakeholders, and the general public for their patience, understanding, and cooperation during the repair exercise.

The company said it remains focused on providing safe, reliable, and sustainable water services and will continue to roll out proactive interventions to improve delivery across the Ashanti Region.

Residents are advised to allow the system a few hours to stabilise as pressure builds up in the network.
