Parliament Launches “Parliament and You” Series to Educate Young People on Democracy

Parliament has rolled out a new civic education initiative dubbed “Parliament and You” under the theme “Promoting Parliamentary Education Among the Young” to deepen the understanding of democracy and governance among children and youth.

The programme is designed to make parliamentary processes and civic responsibility more accessible to young Ghanaians.

Speaking at the launch on behalf of the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, First Deputy Speaker, Hon. Bernard Ahiawaw said an inclusive and far-reaching approach to civic education is critical.

He noted that investing in young people and involving them in decision-making is the surest way to prepare them for future leadership.

According to him, empowering the youth today will enable them to confidently take centre stage tomorrow.

Both Majority Leader Hon. Mahama Ayariga and Minority Leader Hon. Ossie Archie Ayeh welcomed the initiative, describing it as a step in the right direction.

They said the series will help children better understand parliamentary proceedings and urged Graphic Communications Group Limited to present information accurately and in a child-friendly manner.

Clerk to Parliament, Mr Ebenezer A. O. K. D. D. and Managing Director of Graphic Communications Group Limited, Mr. A. A. A., also emphasised that children should be recognised not only as future leaders but as voices that deserve consideration today.

They encouraged the young audience to remain curious and committed to learning.

The Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, urged children to embrace the programme as a valuable learning opportunity.

He supported the initiative with a donation of 25 laptops to aid educational activities.
