Customs Commissioner Engages Stakeholders on 24-Hour Tema Port Operations

The Commissioner of Customs has met with shipping lines and Integrated Customs Management System, ICUMS, stakeholders to discuss the rollout of 24-hour operations at Tema Port.

The engagement, held at Customs Headquarters, focused on strengthening collaboration between Customs, shipping lines and ICUMS operators.

It also addressed ways to improve trade facilitation and enhance efficiency in port operations.

According to a post by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), the move to round-the-clock operations is expected to reduce vessel turnaround time, clear cargo backlogs, and cut demurrage costs for importers and exporters.

The Stakeholders used the meeting to raise concerns on system integration, staffing, and security arrangements needed to sustain 24-hour service.

The Commissioner stressed that collaboration with shipping lines and ICUMS partners is key to ensuring a smooth transition.

Customs, he said, remains committed to modernising processes and delivering a more competitive port environment for trade.

Shipping lines and ICUMS stakeholders welcomed the initiative and pledged support to align their operations with the new schedule.
