Nkwanta South District of the Oti Region, has been stricken by a curfew following the renewed conflict between the Adele, Challa, and Akyode tribes which claimed the lives of eight (8) earlier this week.

On Tuesday, the Minister for Interior, Ambrose Dery, announced the curfew takes effect from 5:00 pm to 6:00 am each day.

The decision taken in consultation with the Oti Regional Security Council and by the Executive Instrument is meant to restore peace and security in the town.

Meanwhile, the government has directed persons illegally in possession of firearms and ammunition to surrender them to the right authority.

“Government will like to reiterate that, there is a ban on all persons in Nkwanta Township and its environs from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapons and any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.”

It also pleaded with the parties in the conflict to utilize the established mechanisms for the resolution of all their conflicts and disputes.
