CSA Urges Ghanaians to Double-Check MoMo Recipient Names to Avoid Fraud

The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) is urging mobile money users to make it a habit to carefully verify recipient details before completing any transaction, as part of efforts to curb fraud and mistaken transfers.

In its latest “Cyber Habit of the Day” advisory, the Authority advised users to read and confirm the recipient’s full name at least twice before sending any MoMo.

According to the CSA, a simple double-check can go a long way in preventing people from sending money to the wrong person or falling victim to scammers who rely on rushed transactions and similar-looking names.

“Before your next MoMo transaction, pause for 5 seconds and verify the recipient’s name,” the Authority challenged users in the advisory shared on its official platforms.

The Cyber Security Authority has been running public education campaigns to promote safer digital practices as mobile money usage continues to grow across the country.

The Authority also encourages the public to report suspected cyber fraud through its channels and to visit www.csa.gov.gh for more cyber safety tips.
