Court Throws Out Suit Against NCA SIM Registration Exercise

The Human Rights Division of the Accra High Court has dismissed a suit challenging the legality of the ongoing SIM card registration exercise being undertaken by the National Communications Authority (NCA).

The court presided over by Her Ladyship Barbara N. Tetteh-Charway on July 13, 2022, noted that exercise is lawful and in the public’s interest

The High court also held that none of the actions of the NCA violated any law.

The case was filed by Francis Kwarteng Arthur in the quest of securing an order to stop the ongoing SIM card registration exercise.

The SIM card registration exercise which was earlier scheduled to end on March 31 has been extended to July 31, 2022, after which, SIM cards which haven’t been registered will be disconnected.

The exercise began in October 2021.
