CONFIRMED: Ghana Secures Hosting Rights for 2027 U-20 AFCON

Ghana has secured the hosting rights for the 2027 edition of the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, following confirmation by Kurt Okraku, President of the Ghana Football Association and 2nd Vice-President of CAF.

The announcement was made through his official Facebook page, putting an end to speculation surrounding the host nation.

The upcoming tournament will be the 19th edition of the continental youth showpiece, widely regarded as the pinnacle of youth football in Africa. Beyond continental glory, the competition will also serve as a pathway to the next two editions of the FIFA U-20 World Cup, which is set to be co-hosted by Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.

For Ghana, the hosting rights represent a significant milestone, marking the country’s return as a host nation after nearly three decades. It will be the first time in 27 years that Ghana stages the tournament and only the second time overall.

The decision is expected to provide a major boost to the development of football infrastructure and youth talent in the country, while also offering local fans the opportunity to witness Africa’s brightest young prospects compete on home soil.

Attention will naturally turn to the Black Satellites, who will be eager to take full advantage of home support when the tournament arrives. The team will be looking to build on their recent performances and aim for a deeper run in the competition.

In the 2025 edition held in Egypt, Ghana reached the quarter-final but fell short of qualifying for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile. Hosting in 2027 now presents a fresh opportunity for redemption and a chance to return to the global stage.

Further specifics, including venues, match schedules and organizational arrangements, are expected to be officially communicated by CAF in the coming months.
