COCOBOD Releases GH¢2.6 Billion to Clear Cocoa Farmers’ Outstanding Payments

The Ghana Cocoa Board, COCOBOD, has released GH¢2.6 billion to Licensed Buying Companies, LBCs, for onward payment to cocoa farmers across all cocoa-growing regions.

In a statement, COCOBOD said the funds are intended to settle payments for cocoa purchases in the current season and to clear arrears owed to farmers.

Out of the latest release, approximately GH¢1.4 billion has been earmarked to settle the remaining balance that LBCs owe farmers for cocoa taken on credit.

The Board noted that since the start of the 2025/26 crop season, it has paid a total of GH¢34,523,447,255.64 to LBCs for distribution to farmers.

It added that it is working closely with the buying companies to ensure all affected farmers receive their money and has put monitoring mechanisms in place to track that the funds reach those who are owed.

COCOBOD acknowledged the patience and resilience of farmers during what it described as a challenging period.

The Board assured farmers that no one will be denied payment for cocoa legitimately sold through the approved purchasing system and urged those with outstanding payments to contact the relevant LBC through which they sold their cocoa.

According to COCOBOD, the release of the funds reflects government’s commitment to safeguarding farmer welfare and preserving the integrity of Ghana’s cocoa industry.

The Board said it remains focused on protecting farmers’ interests and strengthening the cocoa value chain for long-term sustainability.
