Charles Bissue Declared Wanted

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has declared the former Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), Charles Cromwell Nanabayin Onuawonto Bissue, wanted.

This is on the back of his refusal to honour invitations by the Office for investigations into corruption and corruption-related offences in relation to his former role.

The Office says it finds Bissue a person necessary for the investigation into the activities of the defunct IMCIM.

In a letter dated May 3, the OSP invited Bissue on May 22. In a reply, Lawyer for the Bissue, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, demanded a copy of the petition prompting the investigations and called for the meeting to be rescheduled to May 25.

The proposition was refused by the OSP who later secured an arrest warrant from a Court for Bissue. His lawyer in a subsequent interview challenged the warrant was improperly sought.

In a social media post on June 13, the OSP said Bissue is wanted.

“Charles Cromwell Nanabayin Onuawonto Bissue is wanted by the #OSP on Corruption and corruption-related offences regarding the activities and expenditure of the dissolved Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), especially in respect of the seizure and management of excavators, machinery, road vehicles and gold nuggets; and use of public office for profit,” it read.
