Gold Tracking and Tracing System Commences in 2026 First Quarter- Sammy Gyamfi

The tracking and tracing of Gold in Ghana will commence in the first quarter of 2026, according to Sammy Gyamfi, the Chief Executive Officer of Goldbod.

The initiative is aimed at ensuring ethical and transparent sourcing of gold and will help eliminate fraud.

With the system in place, every gram of gold produced in Ghana and purchased by the Gold Board from its source will be traced, he said.

“We have given timelines that by the first quarter of next year, we will have a track-and-trace system, which has never happened since Ghana became Ghana. This system will allow us to trace every gram of gold produced in Ghana and purchased by the Gold Board to its source,” he said in an interview on TV3.

According to him, the track-and-trace initiative is a key component of the state agency to strengthen its vision of sanitising the gold trade and promote compliance and a requirement enshrined in Section 31X of the Gold Board Act (Act 1140), which was passed by Parliament in 2025.

“Gold is bought in offices in district and regional capitals, not directly from mining sites. So when a buyer in Koforidua receives gold nuggets or powder, that person may not have the technology to confirm whether the seller is licensed,” he explained.
