C/R: Toddler Killed in Building Collapses After Heavy Rains

A one-year-and-ten-month-old child has died after a building collapsed at Tantri in Cape Coast.

The incident occurred during heavy rains that battered the area on Friday, June 19, 2026.

The incident occurred when a tree fell onto a semi-detached building near Data Bank, causing part of the structure to cave in.

A distress call was received at 3:33 p.m., prompting the swift deployment of personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Regional Headquarters Sub-Station, who arrived at the scene within minutes.

Upon arrival, firefighters worked to create drainage exits to allow floodwaters to recede more quickly and support rescue efforts.

Reports indicate that three people were trapped but had been rescued before the fire crew arrived.

The toddler was later confirmed dead, while the other victims sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at Ewim Hospital.
