Heavy Duty Vehicles to Be Banned after Kotokuom Bridge Rehab- Roads Minister

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has indicated that heavy tracks will not be permitted to use the Kotokuom bridge over the Offin River in the Atwima Mponua District after it has been rehabilitated.

According to him, these tracks contribute to the destruction of these bridges.

“We are also aware that because of the mining issues around the area, sometimes heavy tracks are brought across the bridge. Instead of driving them on a low bed, they offload the equipment and drive them. If you are driving an excavator with the chains on it, of course, it will make it worse so when we finish, we will expect that nobody should do that.”

He made the statement when he inspected the dilapidated bridge in the Ashanti Region on March 3, 2025.

“He is a president to deal with things so he sent me here this morning to assess the situation. From what we have seen here now, I agree we need to shut down the bridge to allow the engineers to work with the contractor to quickly remedy the situation.”

Handing over the site to the engineers and contractor, he urged them to put in the needed effort to complete it quickly.

“Today we are handing over the site to the contractor to start work today…We hope that by Friday they should be able to mobilise the things they need to do it. The contractor should be able to finish this within the shortest possible time.”

“We are asking the contractor as quickly as possible with the best manship…this doesn’t mean the work must be done anyhow. It must be done with the highest level of quality to make the bridge safer for everybody.”
