Black Stars Hold 1st Training In Cote D’Ivoire

The Black Stars of Ghana held their first training upon their arrival in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Pictures released from their training session in the francophone country showed all players actively giving their best under the lights ahead of their opener on Sunday.

Chris Hughton’s side is in Group B and will have to put up a convincing and dexterous performance in the tournament to advance beyond the group stage after their early exit in the 2021 tournament.

More is expected of the team after their highly-criticised play in a friendly against Namibia on Monday ended in a stalemate.

The players include Lawrence Ati Zigi, Richard Ofori, Jojo Wollacott, Alidu Seidu, Dennis Odoi, Kingsley Schindler, Gideon Mensah, Hamid Abdul Fatawu, Daniel Amartey, Nicholas Opoku, Alexander Djiku, Mohammed Salisu, Samed Salis, Baba Iddrisu, Majeed Ashimeru, Elisha Owusu, Richmond Lamptey, Mohammed Kudus, and Andre Ayew.

The rest are Ransford Konigsdorffer, Osman Bukari, Joseph Paintsil, Jordan Ayew, Ernest Nuamah, Iñaki Williams, Antoine Semenyo and Jonathan Sowah.

They will play their group opener against Cape Verde on Sunday, January 14 and take on Egypt four days later before their final group match against Mozambique on January 22.

Ghana will be seeking to extend their trophy wins to five after last winning the tournament in 1982.

In the 2021 tournament, the team’s abysmal performance saw them out in the group stage.
