Asantehene@26: The King’s Backbone
On this milestone of 26 years of exceptional leadership, attention turns to the person whom Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the 16th Occupant of the Golden Stool, has hailed as a formidable force in the discharge of his duties.
Her Highness Lady Julia Osei Tutu embodies the timeless adage that “behind every great man, there’s a remarkable woman”.
The honourable woman perfectly fits the biblical definition of a virtuous woman as stipulated in Proverbs 31:10-12, which reads: “Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.”
Lady Julia has committed to being the King’s pillar of strength, offering him tranquillity and support in his reign.
“Otumfuo, my love, I promise to continue to be your backbone, to stand with you in good times and in difficult times. I reaffirm the vow that I made to you when we first married,” she said at the 74th birthday celebration of the Asantehene.
On two separate occasions in the recent past, the King has extolled his spouse as an ideal woman with an insatiable desire to see him prosper.
“My wife has been a formidable force behind me till now. She is not troublesome, she is not selfish and she is selfless. Her prayer is to see me succeed. Please pray for her for me because she is solidly behind me,” His Majesty testified at his 25th Anniversary Thanksgiving ceremony at the Manhyia Palace on April 26, 2024.
His Majesty counts himself lucky to be yoked with her.
“In my reign, I am lucky I met a good woman. She has good luck. She is not selfish and she is compassionate. She is also part of this journey,” he said while addressing congregants at the St Cyprian’s Anglican Cathedral during his 74th Birthday Thanksgiving Service on May 6, 2024
Therefore, on this auspicious occasion, we celebrate the backbone of the King.
