Govt Releases Funds for KNUST Hospital Project

The government has released 50% of the funds needed for the completion of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.

This was announced by the Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum on Friday, May 10, 2024, while speaking at the KNUST on the occasion of the Chancellor’s Week, a week-long programme to celebrate Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

He noted that the influence and intervention of Otumfuo had propelled the release of the funds.

With these funds released, he anticipates the completion of the project, which is long overdue by the end of this year.

“I have been told they have been released 50% of the funds needed for the equipment. The letter is in my office so when I get to Accra, I’m going to make sure we process it because it will be a great opportunity for you (Otumfuo) and the President to commission the Teaching Hospital in your Silver Jubilee year. I believe we do everything possible to get it done.”

The hospital which was started by former President John Agyekum Kufuor is meant to facilitate the training of health professionals from the KNUST and across the country.

It was scheduled to be completed in 2022; however, the timeline could not be met due to financial constraints.

Otumfuo inspected the progress of the project in March 2023 where he received a briefing from an official of Consar Limited- the construction company.
