Ahwiaa Market Project at 98% Completion – Ashanti Regional Minister

The Ahwiaa Market project in the Kwabre East Municipality has reached about 98% completion, Ashanti Regional Minister Frank Amoakohene has announced.
During a municipal tour, Amoakohene said the market was initiated under the World Bank’s Secondary Cities Support Programme by the previous administration, and he commended them for starting the project.
At the time of transition, he noted, the project stood at approximately 26% completion.
He said the progress demonstrates the importance of continuity in governance and development.
Before-and-after images of the facility, he added, reflect significant progress made through the current government’s commitment to completing ongoing projects that directly impact livelihoods and local economic growth.
Amoakohene stated that the Ahwiaa Market and other legacy projects will be completed following President John Dramani Mahama’s directive that 20% of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) resources be reserved for the completion of legacy projects nationwide.
He described the directive as a bold decision that ensures critical infrastructure is delivered for the benefit of citizens instead of being abandoned.
The Regional Minister also praised the Municipal Chief Executive for Kwabre East, Hon. Joseph Amankwaa, for his dedication and hard work in driving the project to completion.
He said the market is expected to be completed and commissioned in the coming weeks, creating a modern trading environment for traders and strengthening economic activity in the municipality.
