Gbintri Conflict: Immigration Officer Shot Dead, One Other Critically Injured

Two immigration officers have gone under attack at Gbintri in the North East Region, leaving one dead and the other in a critical condition.
The attack occured at 1 pm on October 3, 2025, while they were on duty at the Gbintri Inland Checkpoint in the East Mamprusi Municipality.
In a statement, the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) identified the deceased as Assistant Immigration Control Officer II (AICO II) Rafiq Mohammad and the injured as AICO II Oppong Daniel.
The injured officer is said to be receiving medical attention at the Baptist Medical Centre (BMC) in Nalerigu.
Condemning the violent attack, the GIS said a joint team from the Police Service and the Immigration Service in the North East Region, swiftly responded to the incident, ensuring the safety of the injured officer and launching a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances of this heinous crime.
“The Comptroller General of Immigration (CGI) extends heartfelt condolences to the family of the fallen officer, honouring his ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.”
“The CGI pledges unwavering commitment to ensuring that those responsible are swiftly identified and apprehended.”
Gbintri has been hit by a fatal dispute over a piece of land.
This has displaced thousands while dozens have lost their lives.
