We Will Roll Out Free Primary Health Care Next Year- Health Minister

Starting next year, Ghanaians will benefit from free primary health care services, with approximately GHC 1.5 billion allocated for this initiative in the national budget, according to Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.

This will include enhanced promotive healthcare and enhanced preventive healthcare and that will give rise to the early detection of disease, he said at a press conference on December 1, 2025.

These are intended to avert complications.

Akandoh further explained that this has become necessary as primary health care accounts for about 80% of health needs, especially in Ghana.

“If we have our primary health right, we will have a very strong health sector. His Excellency the President has directed that beginning next year, we have to roll out what we call free primary health care.”

This, however, he said, will fall under the NHIS.
