KMA to Crack Down on Trading Activities on Bantama Streets

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has announced plans to crack down on trading activities on streets, the extension of shops onto pavements, and the indiscriminate parking of vehicles within the Bantama Sub-Metro.

It observes that the practices contribute to congestion and vehicular traffic along the Bantama High Street and around the Bantama Market.

“The Assembly strongly condemns these unlawful acts and cautions all individuals involved to desist immediately,” it said in a statement on November 25, 2025.

As such, it said traders operating on pavements and asphalted streets around the Bantama Market had been directed to relocate to the Racecourse Market immediately.

“All affected traders are further instructed to contact the Bantama Sub-Metro Administrator and team for allocation and guidance at the forecourt of the KMA office at the Racecourse Market.”

In addition, it said all structures or extensions encroaching on pavements and walkways must be removed with immediate effect, as it served notice to demolish any remaining unauthorised structures and surcharge the owners from November 28, 2025.
