World Cup: Play for the Flag- Mahama to Black Stars Ahead of Panama Opener

President John Dramani Mahama has rallied the Black Stars ahead of their opening World Cup match against Panama in Toronto, saying the government and over 30 million Ghanaians stand firmly behind the team.
Addressing the players on the threshold of Ghana’s fifth World Cup appearance, President Mahama said the tournament is a testament to the resilient spirit of the nation.
“You carry more than a ball. You are carrying the hopes, dreams, and heritage of a people. From the streets of Chorkor to the plains of Bole, every Ghanaian heart beats in sync with yours,” the President told the team.
He also charged Ghana’s vibrant diaspora in Toronto and across North America to be the “12th Man” for the Black Stars. “Let the red, gold, and green illuminate the stands, and let our drums remind our boys that wherever a Ghanaian stands, home is never far away,” he said.
President Mahama announced that the government has secured official television broadcast rights to ensure every tackle and goal is beamed into homes from Axim to Bawku and from Ho to Hamile.
He described it as “our gift to a nation that lives and breathes the beautiful game.”
“Play for the flag. Play for the children dreaming of greatness in your footsteps. The world is watching, and we are confident that the Black Star will shine brighter than ever before on this global stage,” he concluded.
Ghana’s fifth World Cup appearance puts the Black Stars among Africa’s most consistent representatives on football’s biggest stage.
The match against Panama in Toronto marks the start of the campaign.
