We Need Our Pitch For Training – Akurem M/A Tells Assembly

The Akurem M/A Primary and JHS have expressed their displeasures with the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly for its inability to complete the school’s park or pitch the Assembly intended to transform into Astroturf which at its initial stage has been delayed and remains uncompleted.

According to teachers and the Headteacher of the school, there are a cluster of five schools in the area which use the pitch for sports purposes. The project was started in 2018 which was started with the fencing and chippings overlay, after which the project has been ignored without seeing the contractor on site. Upon approaching the Assembly on the project the teachers said they were informed that it is on record that the project has been completed whiles it is not.

The teachers stressed that the inter-school league is fast approaching and that they need the pitch for their training and sports activities, hence, the alternative at hand is to remove the chippings and use the pitch.

Speaking to Newsmen on the issue, former MCE for Asokore Mampong, Hon. Alidu Seidu in whose era the project was initiated disclosed that, the Assembly did not initiate the project itself but rather in the care of the then Ministry of Inner City and Zongo Development.
According to him, the Assembly was not directly involved in contrary engagement and that any investigations must be directed to the appropriate person or authority as he is no more in control of steering the affairs of the Assembly.

However, in an engagement with the current MCE of Asokore Mampong, Hon. Kennedy Kankam, disclosed that, his investigation and records show that the contractual engagement between the government and the contractor was not properly carried creating shortfalls in the continuity of the project. As such, the assembly is doing what it can to see to its continuation with several other projects that have been ignored.

He emphasized that people removing the overlaid chippings will be arrested and prosecuted if continued.
