Ghana Earns $1.1 Billion Through GoldBod in a Month- Ato Forson

The Minister for Finance, Cassiel Ato Forson, has announced that Ghana has earned $1.1 billion in foreign exchange since the operationalization of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) a month ago.
The proceeds are from the purchase of more than 11 tonnes of gold in the last four weeks.
“This marks a significant milestone in our strategy to strengthen the cedi, build reserves, and increase local participation in the gold trade,” the Minister remarked on June 3, 2025, while inaugurating the reconstituted Board of the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF).
He challenged the leadership to build on this momentum while opining that Ghana must own part of the gold mined in the country.
“The time has come for MIIF to hold significant equity in our mining sector and to ensure that Ghanaian businesses benefit meaningfully from our resources.”
Highlighting the concerns of poor governance and resource embezzlement that bedevilled the Fund between 2019 and 2024, he emphasized that that era must not recur.
He reminded the new Board of the purpose for which the MIIF was established.
“We have reduced financial flows to MIIF until there is a demonstrable turnaround. If this new board, led by Mr. Richard Kwame Asante, can restore discipline and focus, the government will re-engage fully,” he added.
